What does it mean to be Physically and Socially isolated ?
Hello if you don’t know already, My name is Michelle Alexander I am the Founder and Managing Director of AKA LIFE COACHING Transformational Life Coaching for Women. I go by many names Michelle, Mum, Mech, Nana, Alexander. Just to inform you it was my 40th birthday this week on Tuesday 31 March lool yes I know I don’t look old enough!! Anyway yesterday I went for a walk for the first time in over a week and it made me think about the difference between being physically and socially isolated.
There has been many times when I have been in a room filled with people and felt socially isolated although I was clearly not physically isolated. So what does socially isolated really mean ? Social isolation describes the absence of social contact and can lead to loneliness. It is a state of being cut off from normal social networks, which can be triggered by factors such as loss of mobility, unemployment, or health issues. COVID 19 has meant many families have being forced into physical isolated and or social isolation, I can honestly say I have been lucky enough not to have felt socially isolated. This is undeniably due to the close connections I have with family and friends “Thanks Gang” .It begs the question “Has this period highlighted the loneliness WITHIN us all as people?”. Has this COVID 19 epidemic triggered and highlighted something deeper ?” .
In life I have always clung on to my mothers words saying “I came into this world by myself” LOL in reference to me questioning and asking her why she doesn’t go out or didn’t have lots of friends around her. I have grown to realises that I have a deep sense of peace and feel happy in my own company. I am also lucky to have great friends and family which I am truly grateful for. I have written a few thought provoking questions for you to answer . XOXO
